1943-1946: World War II in colour 17 hours - Gaumont Collection
From 1942 until 1944, only one programme was broadcast throughout France: France Actualités. Produced by a Franco-German company, these materials were of course riddled with propaganda .
Other newsreel programmes would not reappear until 1946 .
Intent on compiling the entire history of the 20th century on film and eager to fill the gap caused by wartime, Cinémathèque Gaumont acquired 100 or so items from the National Archives filmed during World War II, including some 20 colour sequences in 16 mm .
